HM KEMI ADEOSUN FLAGSOFF OFF TAX THURSDAY IN LAGOS

Honourable Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun flagged off the Lagos State edition of Tax Thursday campaign to educate and sensitize people on their tax obligations and how to take advantage of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme at The Palms Shopping Mall Lekki. She was joined by the Executive Chairman of Lagos State Inland Revenue Service (LIRS), My Ayodele Subair on this exercise.

The exercise saw the Honourable Minister and Staff of FIRS and LIRS visiting stores in the mall and personally communicating the importance of tax payments and the contribution of tax to National growth and development.

People were urged to take advantage of VAIDS to declare their assets and income as well pay outstanding tax liabilities without having to worry about penalties, interests, audit or prosecution from 1st July 2017 – 31st March 2018. The tax awareness campaign is in line with the directive by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo that every Thursday be declared “Tax Thursday”, to create awareness and enlightenment on tax payment among Nigerians.

The Voluntary Asset and Income Declaration Scheme is to provide taxpayers with a time-limited opportunity to regularize their tax status relating to previous tax periods and pay any taxes due. It is also part of a nationwide crackdown on corruption and aims to rebuild Nigeria’s finances by tackling tax evasion.
