The first Tax Thursday campaign commenced on the 6th of July to educate and enlighten the general populace on their tax responsibilities.

The Acting President Prof Yemi Osinbajo during the launch of the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) announced that every Thursday be set aside for creating awareness on the obligations of Nigerians as it pertains to tax payments.

The Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Babatunde Fowler,led the campaign to major streets, malls and markets within Abuja, educating the Nigerian populace on the importance of paying tax to ensure sustainable development and rebuild the nations revenue base.

The campaign train made its first stop at Emab Plaza, Wuse 2 where Mr Babatunde Fowler highlighted the benefits of participating in VAIDS before proceeding to Ceddi Plaza and Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja.

Tax Thursday will run for the next one year sensitizing Nigerians on their tax obligations and encouraging compliance.
